FertilityCare, family planning in harmony with nature

FertilityCare is a gynaecologic and reproductive healthcare system developed by Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist Dr. Thomas W. Hilgers in Omaha Nebraska, U.S.A.

In the 1970s Dr. Hilgers conducted extensive basic research into the ovulation method of family planning in order to better understand normal healthy fertility cycles.

  • During that time he standardised the ovulation method changing it from a subjective assessment of fertility to an objective recording of the signs of fertility.  This research was conducted with the assistance of his wife Sue, and nurses Diane Daly and Ann Prebil.  Together they evaluated over 150 patients and developed the standardised vaginal discharge recording system (VDRS), which has proven to be very reliable in objectively recording the biological markers of fertility. This recording system is a medical model and has additional benefits for understanding and treating abnormal gynaecologic health.
  • Remember FertilityCare is far more than just another system of Family Planning.  In addition to being as reliable as the oral contraceptive pill for avoiding pregnancy, the FertilityCare System can also be used to give an indication of  a couples  fertility potential even before they try to conceive! In todays climate where one couple out of every six will experience difficulty conceiving this is a tremendous advantage  especially for newlyweds who have made the decision to postpone childbearing during the early years of marriage.

  • If a couple are tracking their signs of fertility we can identify very specific biomarkerswhich give an indication of reduced fertility potential or increased risk of miscarriage.  If specific abnormal signs are identified from the fertility chart the Teacher-Practitioner can inform couples and advise them to attend a specially trained Medical Consultant to scientifically evaluate their fertility and possibly prevent a miscarriage even before they try to conceive.  This is very new and advanced thinking in the area of reproductive health that generally does not consider miscarriage a problem until the couple have had three. Regarding infertility, early treatment offers the best chance of success. If there are signs of reduced fertility couples can make a more informed decision regarding when they would like to try to conceive based on their individual fertility chart.

Dr. Hilgers used his expertise in Obstetrics and Gynaecology to apply this basic research to the treatment of infertility, miscarriage and abnormal gynaecologic health. This resulted in the eventual development of Natural Procreative Technology or NaProTechnology to treat these disorders in a methodical and objective fashion using the most contemporary gynaecologic techniques to enhance procreative potential.

This information is available to Doctors and other healthcare professionals in a textbook entitled "The Medical and Surgical Practice of NaProTECHNOLOGY". The textbook is over 1,200 pages long with 90 chapters. It can be ordered from www.naprotechnology.com .

At present over 100 doctors have trained in NaProTechnology , through Dr. Hilgers training programme in Omaha, Nebraska, USA and preliminary results of this approach for treating infertility and recurrent miscarriage are very encouraging.
